Haute couture is an odd mix of fantasy and artistry and the beauty looks that accompany the incredible frocks are no different. People seem to be in two schools about couture makeup: either its toned down and simple to enhance the garments or it is an excuse to get creative with pigments, colours and textures.

Chanel took the classic, black smokey eye and smudged it dramatically around the eye. A delicate black lace veil wrapped around the eyes while the skin was kept milky, porcelain pale.

Gaultier took hair to extreme heights, scraped back and topped with feathered headdresses. The lips? A neat, perfectly lined red. Eyeliner was definitely the focus, winged out past the socket and drawn on below the eyes.

More beautiful makeup work at the Armani Couture show with an intense two toned shadow look- smokey black under the lids and a wash of coral up to the brows.

Schizophrenic looks at Dior saw an 80’s flashback complete with the huge blow out as well as some intricate bejewelled brows. One of my favourites would have to be this magnificent sequinned eye that should come with a ‘do not try at home’ disclaimer!

The girls at Valentino looked like beautiful forest nymphs; my fave look of the couture shows this season. Dewy, glowy skin with soft pinky/peach lids and a beautiful metallic gold dotted on the inner lids and again on the cupids bow made the models look like fairies. The hair was relaxed, long and loose with a delicate floral headpiece fit for the prom.

What were your favourtie looks from the couture shows? Are you a fan of the crazy makeup?
